The ink level of the "smart" ink cartridges is controlled by their IC chip with relative precision. When all the ink is consumed, the ink level indicator shows "empty". This means that the cardridges become unuseable, even if they are refilled.

You do not have to worry about changing cartridges, you just print. When the cartridges run out of ink, you just refill them.

You then reset the IC chip of the ink cartridge, using the chip resetter (ink level resetting system) and the cartridge is ready to be used over and over again.

Following this process you may achieve substantial cost cutting, since you purchase the chip resetter only once and you do not need to purchase new ink cartridges every time you run out of ink, refilling and resetting the existing cartridges many times.

The environment is not charged with plastic waste, since there is no need to dispose the plastic cartridges when they run out of ink. You just refill over and over.

When the cartridges run out of ink, you just buy only the ink and you use it till the last drop. This way the environment is not charged with ink waste.
Using the chip resetters is quite simple and easy a process. Simply line up your OEM or compatible ink cartridge with the notches on the bottom of the resetter (different size notches for the different cartridge designs.) The pins on the resetter should line up with the contacts of the IC chip on the ink cartridge. Then press the resetter pins firmly against the chip contacts on the cartridge for a few seconds (usually 3 to 5 seconds). Blinking of red light indicates that the contact is achieved. When the green LED of the chip resetter turns on and starts blinking, this implies that the chip on the cartridge has been reset.
If the LED does not light up when the cartridge and chip resetter are pressed against each other, it means that there is no physical contact between the cartridge chip and the chip resetter. In order to resolve this situation, the chip resetter should be placed against the cartridge once again and pressed more firmly to ensure proper contact. Another probable reason due to which LED may not turn on can be the incompatibility of the chip resetter for the cartridge it is being used.
The LED light does not turn on if the cartridge chip is corrupt or contains corrupt data. In such a case, the chip should be replaced. Another cause can be the dead batteries of the chip resetter, which is not very likely to happen unless it has been used for thousands of times. If the chip resetter creates unfamiliar sounds, it means that its batteries have got loose. In order to resolve such a situation, the batteries should be reinstalled.
